Shortly after the Financial Crisis emerged and started to hit the Global Economies Swiss Tourism started officially to discuss and complain about hardening Swiss Franc painting a negative picture of their business perspectives and Swiss tax payers were suggested to spend more of their vacation in Switzerland. Although earning salary abroad the decision was made to spend New Year vacation in Switzerland. Mont Cervin Palace in Zermatt was chosen for a few days during New Year holidays.
Expectations for a 1000+ Chf per night per room in a 5 star hotel in Zermatt were high. Benchmark was other top of Europe 5 star superior hotel. The hotel experience was disappointing in terms of a) infrastructure b) service culture & quality and c) price/performance. In neither of these criteria the Mont Cervin Palace could get close to what the other 5 star S experience. Managing Director pointed out difficulties managing mainly foreign service staff.
There are other reasonable hotels available for the Zermatt experience which is and remains unique!
